We’ve left this update later than originally planned, all the while hoping to see some change from the stem cell therapy. Unfortunately, 4 months on, we’ve not seen anything. As they pointed out in Malaysia, Tim’s memory could have improved but we’ve got no way of measuring that or other hidden areas. As it stands, we won’t be getting more stem cells.
Interestingly, the physiotherapist who works with the stem cell people in Vienna recommended that we pursue Vojta physiotherapy to give Tim the best chance possible. Tim had Vojta here in Nelson from age 1 to 3, but then Vojta was outlawed by the NZ Physiotherapy Board because they refused to do their own research. Its most unfortunate that NZ lags behind Europe in these areas, and refuses to consider their methods because its “not in English”.
Yes, Tim has his cells! 5 vials of rabbit brain cells.
It was hot in Malaysia, as you’d expect. The traffic was heavy. The people never stop smiling. And staring.
There were about 60 patients on the day Tim got his transplant, ranging in age from a few months to over 80 years.
Now we wait a month or two to see if we get results…
We’ve raised enough to cover the cost of the stem cells for this trip, all paid up and ready to go! Tim gets his cells on Monday.
And we’ve got about $400 left over to start the next round of fundraising for the next treatment. Thanks again to those who have helped and are still helping, we appreciate it so much (c:
Drawn at Richmond Police Station on Friday 16th of July, raising $350 – special thanks to the Howat family for selling so many of the tickets!
1st prize went to Sherilyn, 2nd prize to Bob, and 3rd prize to James.
I can’t believe I missed this update…
The ladies at http://sites.google.com/site/tuffluvsite/home raised $1410 last September in sponsorship for their race and gave it all to Tim!
Suddenly we have a date to go to Malaysia for Stem Cell Therapy. If this works out, we’ll be going to Kuala Lumpur at the end of July. I’m updating the website to explain what Stem Cell Therapy is and how it can help, while scrambling to organise flights and accommodation and work out if we’ve raised enough to pay for it.
The 6th and 7th raffles (numbered 5 & 8) were drawn Christmas Eve by the acting manager at Carters. Raffle number 5, originally hosted by Whitcoulls in Richmond Mall, raised $125 and was won by Mrs Booth of Wakefield. Raffle number 8, hosted by Carters in Stoke, raised $140 and was won by a businessman at Colliers International.
Congratulations, and thanks for helping Tim!
The 4th and 5th raffles, which are actually numbered 6 & 7, were drawn in Richmond Mall yesterday. Cody won Raffle No 6, worth $200, and M Thorne won Raffle No 7, worth $206.
Congratulations, and thanks for helping Tim. Both of those raffles raised $250 each.
There are still two raffles outstanding, one is on the counter at Carters, the other was hosted by Whitcoulls. Both have only sold 25 tickets, so I’ll be wandering the streets again tomorrow to see if I can sell a few more before next week’s draw.
We’re already half way through the second round of treatment!
It’s been madly busy, there doesn’t seem enough time in the day, at least I get to relax for half an hour a day in the chamber with Tim (the other half hour is taken up with keeping him from getting bored).
Only four weeks till we’re finished the second round…
I’m still selling raffle tickets, it hasn’t worked to sell them on shop counters so I have to take time off work and wander the streets but we’re getting there, sold another 15 tickets this afternoon ($5 each).
